15th ANNUAL HEIGHTS LIGHTS ON PARADE
OUTDOOR LIGHTING/DECORATING CONTEST
The City of Harker Heights Parks and Recreation Department hosted its annual Christmas outdoor lighting/decorating contest within the city limits of Harker Heights on Monday, December 15 - Wednesday, December 17. There were four divisions the citizens were able to enter in the free contest based on their type of home and part of the area of the city they were located. Awards were given for 1st place, 2nd place, and People’s Choice in Division I, Division II, and Division IV. In Division III awards were given per area.
This year’s contest had a total of 21 entries compared to 16 entries from 2013. The Parks Department had 17 volunteer judges which in 2013 there were 11 judges. There were 466 votes submitted online for People's Choice for 2014 compared to 331 votes submitted last year.

SEED & PLANT SWAP

This free event will allow the general public to bring in seeds, bulbs, and/or cuttings (no hybrid seeds please) to share and swap. Please make sure that the seeds are clearly labeled in an envelope, baggie, or container. Labels should include the name of the plant, growing directions, and a picture of the plant if possible. It is not mandatory to bring something to swap. Baggies will be provided for take home seeds. There will be gardening related vendors at the event as well to share information about gardening, their business, and to answer any gardening questions.
