Harker Heights Senior Recreation Program is designed for ages 50 & up.The program offers activities and events that will
provide services that empower the seniors to focus on what matters most: their goals, hopes and dreams. The program promotes the participation of residents and non-residents through quality programs in socialization, nutrition, health and recreation. All participants must register before attending programs. The monthly trips and a few classes do have a small fee.


All activities are held at the Activities Center (unless otherwise noted).

Pickleball is a fun tennis-style paddle game that is enjoyable for all ages. Watch a while or jump right in and play. Beginner to experienced players are welcome to join right in.Mondays are set aside for advanced play. Bring non-marking tennis shoes and comfortable clothes. If you do not have a paddle, you can borrow one.

Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:30 am – 10:00 am 
Designed to exercise muscles & joints. Exercises are mostly seated but some balance work is done. No running, hopping or jumping! Wear good athletic shoes and appropriate workout clothing. Be prepared to have fun getting stretched.

Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10:00 am – 11:00 am

This exercise class focuses on a higher level of activity, including walking a couple of miles each class. There is no running or jumping, just a lot of body movement. Wear good athletic shoes and be prepared to move. The group really moves out!

Mondays & Wednesdays, 12:00 pm – 3:30 pm
Come join us for a relaxing day of playing cards in a no stress zone. All levels of pinochle players welcome. We will teach you how to play if you want.

Desire a bigger challenge than beginner level line dancing? Join the Gotta Dance Line dancers to learn intermediate dances. Once a month Friday night dance is held either in Harker Heights or Austin area. Line dancers must have gone through a beginner class first. If class has already started, join in and you will be welcomed at a break.

Tuesdays, 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Join in the fun of line dancing. You will be introduced to the basic steps that are used in line dance and you will experience performing them to music in easy line dances. It is excellent exercise and a great social activity. A new class begins every January. Smooth soled shoes or dance shoes are best for line dance. Foot tubes may be used over other shoes.

Tuesdays, 11:00 am – 12:15 pm
This class is an opportunity for you to learn what the current world is like. DVD courses from “The Teaching Company” are used and courses usually run for 6 - 12 sessions and last about an hour each week. Come in, find a seat and learn.

Tuesdays, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
This class is a great opportunity for every skill level from novice to professional. We primarily carve basswood, but carve other woods as well. Wood carving takes many hours to finish a project, so patience is a requirement. Bring your own supplies and any safety equipment such as carving glove, thumb guard or finger pad.


Wednesdays & Fridays, 9:00 am – 1:00 pm
Expand your vocabulary in this intellectual word game is great for a group of 2 or 4.

Wednesdays, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Watercolor class is for beginners & up. We practice the basics of art, but most of all try to have fun and no one is a bad artist. $5.00/class. Instructor will provide tools first couple of classes and then go over what you will need to purchase if you do not have your own supplies.

Wednesdays, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

A good time with a great bunch that will welcome you. You do not need to know how to play, we will teach you. Just show up and take a seat. Players bring snacks to share.

2nd & 3rd Thursdays, 9:00 am – 11:00 am

Come make greeting cards using rubber stamps & ink. Learn different techniques to make your projects that rival purchased cards. The first class is free, but if you choose to join the cost is $5.00/class. Instructor provides all paper products and equipment. Feel free to bring your own supplies.

Thursdays, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

A concentration game of cards. Show up and have a seat. Players bring snacks to share.

Fridays, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

This league uses the ladies basketball rules of the 1920’s. No experience needed. Show up for a game and see if you are ready to join the team.


2nd Mondays, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

LAdies Night Out
2nd Tuesday of the Month, 4:30 pm
Ladies Night Out is designed for the lady who needs to get away, try new restaurants and meet new friends. We will be meeting the 2nd Tuesday of each month at a new restaurant. Make sure to sign up in the Green Book at the Activities Center, so we can call ahead and make reservations. We will meet at the restaurant at 4:30 pm. Don’t forget to invite your lady friends.


2nd Thursdays, 11:00 am
This potluck lunch features the showing of a movie that generally lasts around two hours.  Everyone in the group brings food to share, items to go with the main dish which is provided. Come in, find a seat, and make yourself comfortable. Food is placed in the kitchen ready to be shared. Food to serve 6 or so, salads, vegetables or dessert.

3rd Thursdays, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Come sing along with us your very favorite songs from when you were young. These may be some of the first songs you remember. 

3rd Thursdays, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Come join a game of Bingo. $0.25 to get in and play. Prizes are awarded after each Bingo.


4th Thursdays, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Armchair Travelers gives seniors a chance to "visit" other cities in the United States and "overseas" without leaving the comfort of their seat. DVDs are used to learn about the world we live in.
