PUBLIC NOTICE: Spoofed Calls
It has come to the attention of the City, that several area residents have received phone calls reportedly from the City of Harker Heights Water Department Number (254)953-5630. The phone call was made by a human and not an automated system and demanded the payment of the residents water bill or threatened to have the water shutoff. The phone number is being spoofed. This call is not from the City nor did it originate from any of the City's equipment or by any of the City's personnel.
The City will never ask you to pay a bill over the phone. The City's Utility Billing Department doesn't perform person-to-person phone payments. Therefore you will never receive a phone call demanding that you pay your water bill over the phone.
Don't fall for pressure put on you by a fraud caller. If you have doubts about the legitamcy of a call being made a City Department. Hang up and dial the City's Main Number. (254) 953-5600. The phone attendant will be able to transfer you to the correct department.
If you given your credit card over the phone because of this scam. Immediately contact your bank and relay the situation. Additional contact the Harker Heights PD if you a City residents and provide them with the details of the situation.
